Another Big Reason to Hate Golf Carts in SoWal

This makes me so mad. :pissed:

We already have a problem with sign pollution. The Walton County Sheriff's Office will be placing signs up and down Scenic 30A and connecting roads for golf carts (LSV) - a whole list of laws like no texting while driving, seatbelts required, stay off bike path, etc. (Rental carts are already required to have stickers on them with this info.)

Why make us all pay for golf cart driver ignorance? Why not make renters read the laws and pass a quizz before they can rent? I had to do such before renting a small sailboat one time while on vacation. Why not just make it clear to people they have to follow the same laws as car drivers. We have penalties in place to enforce driving laws. THE LAWS APPLY TO GOLF CARTS IS THIS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND!

Scenic 30A is getting less and less scenic. Will things like this make us lose our scenic highway designation?

The tourists in the golf carts are renting the properties that keep income coming into this area. Without tourists this place will fall into financial ruin and our public places will too. Everyone is awful grumpy about the golf carts and the tourists, but you choose to live in a beach vacation destination. Golf carts are a wonderful device for carting all that beach stuff and families around, and yes for the driver they are fun to ride in, fresh air blowing through hair and sunshine on face. We locals do not get to have the roads to ourselves, the roads here are never going to be like the city you moved here from. This is a beach culture and the traffic reflects this fact. My advice is grow some beach spirit, be tolerant of our guests, accept golf carts and bicyclers as part of the landscape.

Golf carts suck.

We're on a destination merry-go-round....more visitors = more infrastructure = more visitors = more development = more visitors....making me dizzy :rolling::rolling::rolling:

Sometimes I think we have more golf carts than people. An ongoing county embarrassment that they are allowed on our roads that are made for cars and trucks. As if we didn't have enough problems with traffic we have to deal with idiots in golf carts.

You realize some tourists are actually trailering in their golf carts from home? Saw an unlicensed one going down old 98 without a care in the world.

It's getting pretty consistent. Had an ahole from Peachtree City almost run over a friend's dog with theirs.

8-10 kids piled on one in our neignborhood with an under age driver. They never stopped at stop signs and just merrily raced around. I followed them, snapped a picture of the license plate, noted the address where they pulled in, came home and called the sheriff's non emergency #.

Congrats to the commissioners for taking "a step". Unfortunately, we still have to rely on the golf cart driver to use them. :dunno:

Golf Cart Pull Over Lanes

The board is looking at several different locations on 30A that could benefit including Deer Lake, Grayton Beach, and The Hub.

Walton County Commissioner Donna Johns said it’s important to provide a safe place for the golf carts to pull over.

“So we want to do nice little pads along the way that looks nice,” Johns said. “And that’ll give people an opportunity to pull over and let the cars, the string of cars typically, go ahead and go past them, and then they can get back on the road.”

The only issue I have with the pull over lanes is that some drivers will expect people to use them when they aren't technically required to yield.

I get the reasoning behind it, but it feels like this will add to the road rage.

Currently I utilize the unofficial traffic law of "no oncoming traffic? You can safely pass a slow moving golf cart regardless of the lines"

And if the idiot driver turns or swerves in front of you, enjoy the state pen for manslaughter or vehicular homicide or whatever the charge is from killing them all.

Pullover lanes may be better than nothing but I feel insulted. Like the BCC let my house out of the barn and shot him.

Said it before will say it again, a trolley system is the answer! Ban golf carts on hwy 30A ( trolleys can use the pull over pads for pick up and drop off)

You have to change state law to ban golf carts.

it's interesting that neighborhoods banned them but that almost seems like the only place they should be. Low speed areas. If Walton County were to raise the speed limit on 30A then problem solved - no golf carts allowed on county roads. The lower speed limits would be in front of the neighborhoods as it is almost everywhere. Maybe neighborhood security could manage the teenagers, by taking the keys? Bad behavior for a few to ruin it for everyone. But part of the problem is the slow speed, slowing down traffic so that would solve that problem too? So you wouldn't be banning them, which might be more difficult but limit their use. Ellen

Before that happens we will probably have a million self driving Ubers.

Yesterday.....

...anyone hear about this....

COUNTY ROAD 395 SHUT DOWN BETWEEN 30A AND WATERCOLOR IN SANTA ROSA BEACH

Walton County Sheriff's Office is on scene of a traffic crash involving a vehicle versus pedestrian near the intersection of County Road 395 and Forest Drive

Initial reports indicate the pedestrian fell out of a low-speed vehicle and was hit by another vehicle

County Road 395 is shut down between 30A and the entrance to Watercolor. Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes

The County needs to stand a firm stand on carts or cars. We can't have both on 30A

For the 1,000 time. You will need to change state law to get golf carts/LSVs off the road.

They will be plenty big for SUV parking.

What I mean is that motorists will feel that LSVs are required to use them. So when they don't it'll lead to issues.
