Right in front of Arium Apartments at Dune Lakes Elementary.
Proposed store is 60,742 sf.
The average size of a Supercenter is 178,000 square feet.
For discount stores, 105,000 square feet is the average size.
Neighborhood stores have an average size of 42,000 square feet.

Wish we had higher standards than a massive parking lot on our scenic corridor.

Disappointing. Guess we're filling the gap with chain retail between Destin and PCB. :cuss:

Isn't one Small Walmart enough for a small town that isn't even an official town? Why not The Fresh Market or something else? Ugh.

Fresh Market can't make it work in a rural area.

There's a lot more commercial coming.

For many years after I moved here twenty four years ago I thought most of the corridor along 98 east of 331 was part
of the Pt Washington state forest. Then wooded parcels started being cleared and developed.
Fast forward to today and more woods are being cleared for more building, and more S.A.C.C.s { Standard American Commercial Crap"} is being built. It will not be long before this stretch of road looks like 98 from Sandestin to Destin. Take a look at 331 from I10 south, its going down the same road. {pun intended} with rampant S.A.C.C.s being erected.
I am not opposed to development, as I know it provides jobs, and makes the economy grow. I just wish we could grow
in a more sustainable way, and work to preserve more of the unique aspects that make our local biosphere so special,
and draw so many people here.

Remember when you moved here for the simplicity of it all? Now everyone wants a Whole Foods, Costco, Nordstroms, etc. Remember when the appeal of this place was partly due to the fact that we don't have those things?

Yes! Except I wanted some grocery stores and now we have them. I didn't miss Walmart or fast food one bit.

This Walmart represents the painful reminder that SoWal is becoming the BIG CITY we moved to get away from :dunno:

This is a bit comical given Walmart’s success was built on their strategy of building their stores in SMALL TOWNS something no other major retailer was doing.

I can't believe they would pass up 331 tourist traffic.

Not on 331...it is already under construction just east of Dune Lakes Elementary on 98.
