Private Beaches in South Walton - Customary Use Updates & SB1622

I know this has been discussed, but does anyone else find private beaches offensive? For 30+ years, my family rented beachfront houses in Panama City Beach and exclusive beach access never crossed our minds. It felt like a privilege just to walk out onto the sand. Given the county-level difference in property law (Bay vs. Walton).

We've vacationed here four times, but never again. Our condo's convenient boardwalk, previously leading to open beach, now funneled us into a tiny, packed zone. Cones blocked access, forcing us to walk along the water to reach the 'public' area. The sight of miles of deserted beach on either side was infuriating. For the price, we're taking our business elsewhere.

God don’t maintain, grow, collect, ship, store, etc. but keep trying to justify your behavior and denigrate others. You make beachfront owners stinky.

I would be happy to spend tax money for beach deeds. Around $100 per foot sounds about right. A lot more than it was worth when the deeds were stupidly mad

I appreciate that you noted that the deeds were provided by Walton County. It has been surprising, I guess, that so many people don't know or won't believe that is fact. And this was done a long time ago.

And there are some that continue to traffic in the low-hanging fruit of "greedy, rich BFO's", and that has grown tiresome. The vast majority of BFO's own small 1 - 3 bedroom units that they have invested in for family and future. Really good people that take care of the beach, invest in fencing to improve vegetation, and respect the surroundings of all.

At some point, everyone will acknowledge that the ultimate goal of wide open beaches is for the benefit and profit of developers and the additional tax monies going to Defuniak Springs with expansion. Likely result of that is major traffic, congestion, and an overrun area.

Not what 30A is about for sure.

Then he should just simply open his land to the public and let them collect all the pine straw they want. Heck, let the public cut down and just take the pine trees. They grow themselves with help from above. BTW, you never seem to have an issue when @mputnal "denigrated" me more than just a few times. Very hypocritical.

You make beachfront owners stinky.
I'm now experiencing major "ENTITLED non-beach front owners" fatigue. Nothing changes much except for the words used in name calling. And even that is getting to be very much boringly repetitive. Oh yeah, it looks like you're joining in this "denigration" party. Welcome!

Ditto to @SUP View comment. At least you're admitting there's a deed. And you're acknowledging by the comment, "...when the deeds were stupidly made", that the issue was created by those in government at the time, long before current owners took possession with all the private property rights that are associated with that deed.

"Around $100 per foot sounds about right." Heck, I nominate you for property appraiser!!

FINALLY, a stand on eminent domain vs. nourishment. What if I told you I probably would not be one of the eminent domain parcels because of the lack of close proximity to public access.

You obviously don't want ANYBODY to receive compensation because you have declared private property isn't private, even after the county pissed away many millions of dollars on customary resulting in an affirmation that it is.

Good luck with your blathering attempts to convince thousands of owners that they are "bad greedy people". When in fact, you are the evil and mean spirited one who incessantly paints such a NEGATIVE light on many of your fellow citizens for owning private property that many people, such as yourself, feel entitled to.

If I was on the fence at all about opening up the beach (which I was at one time with a couple of compromises I threw out BEFORE customary use), I can assure you that I will now fight tooth and nail to defend what WE own.

So all your ridiculous, long winded, holier than thou posts have completely jaded me. And I thank you for that. It feels good to take a hard stand in something one believes in.

So screw eminent domain and beach nourishment without private property owners' permission. We'll see how this plays out.

Now go out and sell some pinestraw. You know, the stuff God made. Oh wait, shouldn't it belong to everyone for free, that being the case?

Have the last word between us.
I expected this from you. I had hoped for something better but you just don't have it in you. You accuse others of wanting something for nothing when it is really you wanting something for nothing. You think you speak for all the BFO's but you don't. Be accountable for you. You accuse others of attacking you when you are the one attacking others then you hide behind a fake name. I can take your attack on me or my business so feel free to take the gloves off but be accountable for you. You are what you are. Your ranting attacks on people who disagree with you tell the whole story of your purpose in life. Good luck with your fighting until the very end to keep good people off the beach...

Your whole argument is a smoke screen. Half this country voted for a wealthy profit taking developer. Are you saying this is bad for the people? Your arguments are completely hypocritical and just wrong. There are so many things we could agree on but you just want your private beach. I hope that is not all you live for...

A small edge (rigged) among voters. Not half the country.

How about a conflicted number of voters instead of half the country :)

My point was that those people who say this issue is about private property rights are conflicted and that is me just trying to be nice :)
