Where can our family rent a pontoon or small boat to fish on the bay? We used to rent at Elrod's and would like to find something similar.

I'd like to piggyback on this question and add where can a family of Otters rent a boat just for fun?

I think you might have to go to Destin or Panama City to rent a boat with a motor.
For fishing with the family I'd recommend hiring one of the local guides. More expensive but well worth it.

We used Jeff Morman out of PCB. He was great, I'll post some pics tonight.

You can rent a pontoon boat at Baytowne at Sandestin. Fishing in the bay
is easy. Just buy cut squid and fish around the bayous or flats around Baytowne and you may catch some redfish or trout. I am willing to bet you money you will catch a flathead catfish or two. Fun for kids and adults to catch but please throw these fish back in. You do not want to keep or eat these fish!!!! Much cheaper than a fishing guide. Please check the weather before going on the bay. The water can get rough.

Remember, if you are fishing from a boat without a guide, who will provide a license for you, you are required to have a valid fishing license.

Here's a link to Baytowne Marina (Sandestin) Marina Cam - live streaming video of the dock, good quality: http://www.sandestin.com/sandestin_sub_2.asp?sub2_id=375
It looks like they have fishing charters, sailboat charters and rentals, pontoon boats.
Legendary Marine is at the mid-bay bridge: http://www.legendarymarine.com
If they don't have rentals, ask for a test drive.

Great information. I'm making notes. I am in Seagrove this week and will check on these locations. Planning a family get-together later this spring and this will be fun. Thanks for your suggestions. Any more--keep 'em coming.

You have to be a guest at SanDestin to rent their boats
Found that out last weekend when some friends werer in town visiting- my boat just can't fish 7 folks. Try Destin or Panama City Beach. But if you want to fish, I second the advice to hire a guide.

So, if I go over there and flash a couple a $20's they might let me test drive one of these

Perhaps have a mercedes salesman drive you to the marina as a test drive. You sit in the back. Pay the driver/salesman a few twenties to wait for you while you "test" the boat.![]()
