Blue Heron Sightings?

I've been visiting this stretch of beach during the winter since the mid-90's, and in past years I've enjoyed seeing a blue heron during my walks and runs along the beach, often at dusk. Sightings were most common near the Camp Creek and Eastern Lake outlets, but it (or they--I only saw one heron at a time, but I'm not sure if it was always the same one) would sometimes venture east as far as Rosemary Beach. However, I haven't seen the heron yet this year, and I don't remember seeing it last year either. Has anyone seen any blue herons lately, or know of any currently living or wintering along 30-A?

I see them quite often on the beach. Though they usually stick to the wetalnds, bay and bayous.

We have one that hangs out near our dock on Mack Bayou. He always shows up when we're fishing since he knows he'll get a good meal.

I saw four Blue Herons today, but I was in Alabama. However, I do see them regularly at the beach. They usually come to the beach just after the sun sets.

Back when we lived at the beach on Okaloosa Island, there was a whole flock of them that hung around by the Gulfarium.

Question for Cil (good morning!)- haven't you seen bald eagles where you live?

Wow--thanks everyone for the replies and the awesome pictures. I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I see one (heron, not crane!)

I recall Cil posting that she saw some when she first moved down.

Look closely and you will see a Blue Heron in this photo of one of the prettiest places along 30A. Currently, this one shows up every day about 4:45pm.

Clue  Hmmm?
Clue - You probably go by this place without looking everytime you go to your beach condo.

Oh yeah.
Just saw one today, as a matter of fact. It always happens when I am driving. One of these days I am going to get into an accident!

Have seen many great blue herons as well, usually but not always at the bay.

I had one completely empty my minnow bucket at the lake last time I went fishing. He sat there on the dock and chowed down.

gee thanks! the beggars are annoying enough without you encouraging them - one even chased the boat around for awhile once when we were close to shore, then landed and pooped all over the bow, all the while standing there, looking sideways at you, with that " I know you have fish in there. I do. Well, what are you waiting for ? Give me a fish already! What's wrong with you - look at me, I'm a fine, fine bird, right? You bech-ya! Then give me a freakin fish! OK! (gulp gulp gag gulp), now make it two! cmon I know you want to - I'm so cuuuute..." - and they don't take no for an answer, just keep giving you that black eyed pea stare - sand hill cranes are the worst - they're bigger and pushier and don't wait for you to give them a fish - they take it when you aren't looking! i had one snatch a half slice of pizza - stupid thing almost choked on it! - it got better after a while, but watch your food around these crazy things! it could easily kill them! and don't feed big fish bones to the freaking pelicans - it kills them! and wipe your feet before you walk across my nice clean floor!
