Ok, sorry ... One more time, can I have the link for the Beach Pass info. I've held out long enough, it's time to buck up.

Any pointers on how NOT to get stuck? Or how to get unstuck if I do ; )

"We're hoping... Ok so..... Where's that thread on "What to do on a rainy day in SoWal?"

I was in SoWal for a week once with rain & cold weather. We spent a lot of time hanging out in our pajamas all day, eating lots of snacks and doing jello shots. Hopefully you will have lots of sunshine but if not - remember a bad day at the beach always beats a good day at the office.

Thanks for all the info guys! I rarely "floor it" so no worries there. I'm not big on crazy beach drivers either.

Have been thinking about getting a beach clunker to leave down there though .... try'n to talk the hubbie into one of those old Wagoner's. Anybody know of one for sale ; )

I have found several of the older Wagoners on Ebay and www.autotraderonline.com Those and the older Toyota Land Cruisers seem to float over the sand. My Burb wages war and fights it's way through the soft stuff.

Its an old Chevy K5. I have an '86 that I cannot bring myself to sell. But mine doesn't look like a monster truck. They're a ton of fun unless you're the one putting gas in it. The Saudis love me.

Hope you're not driving that back and fourth to SoWal. That'd cost you a fortune!

I think I'll stick with the Wagoneer ; )

Mine doesn't venture far from the driveway. At 8 miles per gallon, (I'm not joking) I don't drive it much.

WOW, I thought only Hummers got that kinda milage!

I'll stick with my 28 mi/gallon VW. Convert. bug that is ... hey maybe I'll pimp her up with some off-road tires and make that my new beach buggie ; )

We had a 1990 Jeep Wagoneer 10mpg  and a little tank at that. If you just used it for running around at the beach id be fine.

How are those things on towing? We've got a little (18ft) Whaler we take out a lot. I'm sure it'd be ok with that, right?

Probably wouldn't even notice one that size. My complaints with the Wag were not enough HP (even though it is a V8) and too small of a gas tank. The thing drove like a dream and the 4X4 system was one of the best made.

no wagoneer, but I overheard a landscaping guy talking to Stacy, Bartender at Red Bar, and he mentioned that he or someone he knew had an old jeep for sale around $3000. I don't know his name, but could probably find out without too much effort.

A guy I went to school with had a home at Indian Bayou and their "Beach Clunker" was a Mercedes 600SL. It sat in the garage until they went down. That must be a hard life.

Our house overlooks the main access at Grayton and one of our pastimes is watching for stuck vehicles. If that vehicle contains shapely girls in bikinis, the men on our porch will be there faster than you can believe. They will fight over who gets to haul you out of the sand and probably ask you to stay for supper. Our women will sit in the rockers on the deck, enjoying the sight of these guys moving faster than they have in many moons. We'll also make you a glass of iced tea if you don't complain about it having sugar in it!

Thanks for continuing to be our entertainment and for being good sports about it! :welcome:
