Walton County has officially launched its own Geocaching program, turning our scenic county parks into a massive, real-life treasure hunt. Whether you’re a seasoned “cacher” or just looking for a new family outdoor activity, the game offers a unique way to discover corners of the county you might normally overlook.
To find a map of local caches and join the adventure, visit www.geocaching.com and search for the username “WaltonCountyParks”.
Geocaching is an outdoor adventure where participants use a GPS device or a smartphone to navigate to specific coordinates to find hidden containers, known as geocaches, or simply caches. With over three million active sites worldwide, Walton County is now officially part of this global community.
Most caches are small, waterproof containers that hold a logbook. Larger caches—like ammo boxes or plastic containers—often include small trinkets for trading. These items are usually sentimental rather than valuable, adding a fun, interactive element to the find.
